Veterans 5-9 will accomplish our mission by partnering with independent substance abuse / mental health facilities to provide a direct outlet of support outside of normal business hours.

We also work with local Police & Fire Departments, jails, and prisons to provide treatment and rehabilitation opportunities to Veterans in our Criminal Justice System.

Lastly, Veterans 5-9 will work closely with other Veteran nonprofits to ensure 24/7 support is not just a statement but a reality.

The issue of veteran support continues to be a pressing problem in Arizona. However, all the great resources mentioned above seem to become non-existent at night. When the 5 o’clock hour/weekend hits, resources are mostly closed and Veterans are left to fend for themselves. Several organizations have stated this needs to be fixed and are looking for ways to help solve this problem.

How We Help Veterans

Our mission at Veterans 5-9 is to provide nighttime & weekend resources so that no veteran goes without support when they most need it. Many veterans who need help don’t fit the standard mold you would think of for a veteran. Today there are more women serving in our military than ever before and current active duty females also have greater diversity with regards to race or ethnicity, which means their needs can sometimes differ from those typical male servicemembers’ requirements as well! Veterans 5-9 is here to provide assistance to all veterans and their families.

Below are testimonials from veterans in connection with recovery through Veterans 5-9:

Success Stories

Veterans 5-9 received a call from a Service Member stating she was just getting out of a bad Domestic Violence situation. She had to take her kids and leave while her husband was incarcerated. Veterans 5-9 was able to assist with lodging and food. Veterans 5-9 also assisted her brother who is also a Veteran with finding a job close to home. We partnered with a local VFW to get her childcare assistance so she could work. This Service Member is now able to support her children and move forward with her life.

Veterans 5-9 was contacted by a mother of an incarcerated Veteran seeking help. Her son understood he needed to get into rehab immediately after being released from prison or he would probably relapse. Our program was able to get this Veteran into a 30-day treatment program. While in the program, he was able to work through his problems and find various resources to help him along the way. After the program, Veterans 5-9 stepped in again and provided him resources to get a job. He now has a job, a roof over his head and has a fighting chance.

Veterans 5-9: A Success Story

In line with honoring military veterans, at Veterans 5-9 we pride ourselves in the ability to make swift actions towards aiding the needs of veterans whose needs can not wait. Behind every success is a story. The following testimonials tell two sides of the story of Anthony Torres and how Veterans 5-9 helped to assist this veteran.

Anthony Torres Success Story

Anthony Torres

My name is Anthony Torres I was in the United States Army (Active Duty) for 5 years I was stationed in Baumholder Germany and Fort Hood Texas. I ETS’d in December 2020 because I was dual military and after our time in Fort Hood we couldn’t get stationed together so I decided to put my family over my career and leave the military. But during that process I signed a contract with the National Guard.

In January 2021 I got hired by a company as a seasonal employee but while I was on terminal leave I noticed that I never got a call or email from any of the companies that I applied for. Knowing that as a seasonal employee my job wasn’t going to last longer since it was already January and April 30th was my last day working with that Company I immediately submitted a Conditional Release to go back to Active Duty (which took 8 months to get approved) but during those 8 months I couldn’t find another job, I started getting in financial issues (debt), started having issues with my wife due to those financial issues, until September 24th after work she brought the divorce paperwork which I signed and immediately left the house I started living in my vehicle for about 2 weeks until a friend of mine, the Chaplain assistant in my unit, who also was my roommate in AIT gave me Marcus’ phone number and he without knowing me immediately did everything to put me back on my feet, lodging, food, mental support, he helped me finding job opportunities until I finally got my Conditional Release approved and now I’m going back to what I love to do which is serving this country. It was a really hard process for me I lost my marriage, the privilege of seeing my daughter everyday, but Marcus and my friend never let me down whenever I felt that I needed to talk to someone they were there for me anytime, any day, to give me that mental support that I needed, my family during probably 95% of the process didn’t know what was going on because I felt embarrassed, I didn’t want to admit that my marriage failed.

Now that I’m back on track and I’m in the process of going back to the Army, no words can describe how grateful I feel, I probably lost what I love the most which is my daughter and my wife but thanks to Marcus I didn’t lose the faith in life and without him I’d probably not be here telling my story. Words can’t explain how much I owe him, literally my life.

SPC Trevino

I am SPC Trevino, a chaplain assistant with the Arizona Army National Guard. I had a Soldier who was going through great financial and emotional problems. This soldier was living out of their vehicle and unemployed. Upon explaining the situation to a Chaplain, he gave recommended a gentleman by the name of Marcus from Veterans 9-5. This organization contacted this soldier almost immediately after I reached out and explained the situation. They were able to take care of this soldier in every aspect, financially and emotionally. This soldier is now on his way back to Active Duty and has been taken care of. I am grateful for the prompt and sincere assistance of Veterans 9-5 and look forward to working with and supporting them in the future!
